We wish to remind and reassure everyone under 50yrs that a single dose of MMR gives you 95% protection against measles. And that everyone over 50 yrs is considered protected against measles.
We have been advised we will receive more vaccine after lunchtime tomorrow. We don’t know how many, as the 18000 doses arriving from the North Island will be shared equally between all of the Christchurch practices.
As soon as the vaccine gets to us on Thursday, we will send a text to the children aged 16 months to 3.5yrs, for those caregivers who wish them to have an early 2nd dose. It must be at least 4 weeks after their first dose when they have the second dose.
There will be an initial clinic on Saturday morning 9am-12pm for those in the above text group.
There will be no on-line booking for this clinic, to ensure the priority groups are vaccinated in order. You will need to phone reception to book an appointment. This group cannot be booked before you get a text, so PLEASE do not phone our receptionists before that time.
The number of slots we open up will depend on the number of vaccines delivered to us tomorrow. If supply allows, there will be a further clinic on Tuesday 19th March 12.30-2.30pm.
Please understand that there will not be enough MMR doses for all children in this group to get an appointment immediately. There will be another delivery of MMR next week and we will provide further clinics once it arrives. Our highest priority continues to be adults under 50yrs and children over 1 yr old, who have never had a dose off MMR as they are at highest risk of getting measles in this outbreak. Protecting them first increases the protection of our whole community.
The Saturday clinic will also be available to:
- 18-28 yr olds who have only ever had 1 dose of MMR.
- The 3.5-5yr olds whose caregivers wish them to have their 2nd MMR early, who will have received an earlier text.
Adults aged 29-50 yrs will be recalled for a second MMR once the other groups outlined above have been vaccinated.
Children over 12 months old, and adults under 50 years, who have NEVER had ANY doses of MMR continue to be in the highest priority group. Please phone the practice to get an appointment this week for the first MMR.
