I was born in Christchurch and grew up in St Martins. I spent two years in Dunedin as part of my undergraduate medical training, and three years in small New Zealand towns as a junior hospital doctor. In 1994 I returned to Christchurch to train in children’s health, before making the transition to general practice in 1996.
For me, the appeal of general practice is its unique opportunity to get to know families over many years and I continue to feel privileged when a new patient invites me to share in his or her “health journey”. I enjoy all aspects of general practice, from the health issues of brand new babies to those of nonagenarians, and all ages in between. I endeavour to promote wellness (smokers beware – you’ll be nagged into quitting!), accurately diagnose and manage acute illness, and empower patients to self-manage chronic illness.
I joined the Cashmere Health team in 2007 and thoroughly enjoy working in this vibrant, dedicated and professional environment. Outside my working life, I love spending time with my husband and three children. A year ago I was inspired by a 70 year old marathon-running patient, and started jogging.  Having completed three half-marathons this year, I hope my middle-aged body will continue to allow me to pound the Port Hills with my exuberant labrador.
