Dr Brigid Loughnan

MB ChB, MBA, FRNZCGP

Not currently taking new patients.

I was born and grew up in Christchurch.
I studied medicine at Otago and post graduation worked in small hospitals before moving to Wellington where I did my post graduate training.
I returned to Christchurch and settled into general practice. Over time my interests in medicine have changed to embrace the needs of our older population. But my special interests will always include the children and family health.
My interests have evolved with time. As my family grew up, the challenges of raising children through their teens, and their transition into the adult world has brought great understanding of the issues facing our young people and families today. And now I am enjoying seeing the children and grandchildren of families I have known for many years.
In recent years I have done extra work at the Burwood Plastic Surgery Unit and really enjoy the minor surgery done in the general practice setting.
As general practice faces change as part of our ever changing world, I like to encourage preventative health care and education of patients as they move  towards self management of their health issues.
Outside of medicine I enjoy my family and their activities.  With a granddaughter in northern Sweden I am becoming very good at singing nursery rhymes to her on Skype. In 2009 I took up rowing and am part of an ambitious team of like minded mothers who feel they can take on the rowing world. It keeps us fit, focused and out of mischief.
